Inter-Galactic Cookery, Courtesy of Williams-Sonoma

I got an email this morning, thanks to the sweet lady at the cash register, from Williams-Sonoma. I usually get a tad bit excited about what might be in the email. A coupon? A new flavored vanilla? No, indeed this morning this fateful email held something more unusual. Star Wars memorabilia. Cookie cutters, to
be exact.

Yoda, Darth Vader, Boba Fett and a Storm Trooper made up the arrangement for sale. My one question is where are the more important characters? I'm missing Luke, Leia, and of course, Han Solo. Or even R2-D2 and C3PO. Either way, I'm not sure Williams-Sonoma chose the best characters for sweet, icing-covered dessert fare. Did they just want to make characters you might want to bite the head off of?

And, if you're not satisfied to make the most evil characters into cookies, save Yoda, you can whip up a batch of pancakes with your Williams-Sonoma pancake mold while sporting your Star Wars personalized apron. I love it.

Although, what will Holly Housewives think of the geek invasion to their perfect home cookery store? The Star Wars items could be shelved next to the indestructible Wusthof knives, which could end in a news story itself.

I think I will make a stop by the store this weekend to see if the Star Wars stuff is actually in stores and not sequestered to online only shopping. That would be an extreme faux pas.

I must give it to Williams-Sonoma. At least they chose the correct inter-galactic space storyline to go with. We wouldn't want Picard in there making things look lame. :)

I just happened upon the art of David Weidman. Amazing.

Now, a montage of a few of my favorites.

I'm on the lookout for the book now.

Vacation Options

So, I need help with a decision. I'm planning a vacation for Michael and I, as a gift to us for making great strides in our lives. Here are our choices:

Fredericksburg, TX

Little Rock, AR

Memphis, TN {Incidentally, the skyline below is of Louisville, KY. It's lovely, however.  Maybe this should be a future stop as well?}

Those three options we would be able to make this summer, which is nice because that's a big tourist/food time in these cities. However, if we wait until fall, we would be able to go here:

San Francisco, CA

If we did the SF choice, we wouldn't be able to make our trip we've been planning for a year, to Boston, MA.

So, there's the dilemma. Take a small vacation now, and get to swing another one in the winter in Boston. Or, see Jamie in the fall in San Francisco. What should we do?

Save me!

I'm planning on doing something horrible after work.

Stop me now.

I'm going to Hobby Lobby, Fabric Factory, and JoAnn Fabrics...with money. And intent to buy. Bad! I know! I'm planning on buying some fabric for my wine bar area and for pillows to match.

Wish me luck! (I'll post pictures later.)

The Storm that is Happening Right Now

Outside my window!

Before

After!

I'm so glad I brought my umbrella today! Ugh! And I even thought about it before I walked out the door. Oh well. Hopefully it won't be too bad.

Deadwood

I'm feeling better today, so I've been more productive around the apartment. However, I've still been watching too many episodes of Deadwood. The complete collection came in the store the other night, and I nabbed it. It was only on HBO for 3 seasons in 2004 to 2006, so of course I missed it. I think I was knee-deep in Sex and the City at that point in time. Anywho, this series is growing on me after a rough and somewhat boring start. I feel like the first three or four episodes were full of character building vignettes, and no real action. Now that I'm at the end of the first season, it's definitely better.

Did anyone watch Deadwood the first time around? I've also heard there are huge historical inaccuracies, but then again, when did that ever stop me? I still watched Tombstone.

Family Reunion Photo

I just received this photo of a few of the ladies at the family reunion this year. Going left to right, starting with the bottom row: Jessica, Karen, Linda, Sherry. Top row: me, Jamie, Paula and Shannon. I think I was confused with the weather! :)

Sicky Sick.

What is wrong with me? Did I forget to knock on wood? I've always told people that I'm healthy as a horse, needing no doctor's visits or surgeries. Not that I need those now. However, I am stuck at home, hacking up a lung, with a pounding headache. It's been like this since Saturday night. Just for the record, I've also never broken a bone. Or had wisdom teeth removed (because I don't have any). Or had a major surgery. Or had a cavity. Or had to have my tonsils out. Or had a number of ailments including: mono, measles, migraines, pneumonia, or shingles.

I'm sure other people reading this haven't had anything on this list either. This poses a question of scientific nature. Does that mean we have advanced genes? Someone brought this idea up to me the other day while standing the buy area at work. What if certain people, through breeding or climatic location, have somehow evolved to having more hardy, resistant genes?

I'm not talking survival of the fittest, but more of protective advancement. My dad is the same way. He hasn't had any of the above predicaments, except for having his first cavity at 50 years old. My mom and sister, however, have have almost every one of the mentioned items. What does that say of my family? Am I making light of better, more healthy choices, made by the subjects in question? Either way, I believe it's odd that there are some people in this world that seem to be hit by every ailment available, and yet I can remain so healthy. Generally speaking.

New Photo

My new photo at the top of the page is a giclee of a red ranunculus by Dwight Kirkland. Just FYI.

I'm sickly, and that's why this post is super short. I'll post more when I'm feeling better.

May May Be A Fantastic Month

Happy May, everyone!

It's been almost a month since I last posted, but I'm here with tons of updates.

Apartment: Michael and I have officially moved into our apartment as of April 22nd, and I believe we have every box unpacked now. It's such a lovely apartment! We're really enjoying eating 'al fresco' for dinner on our patio by the lake. I've gotten to take my 'Berkshire' style, as I call it, of interior decorating to the next level, and I'm planning on sewing some extra accessories to tie everything together. When I get it all finished, I will certainly take photos!

Jamie: Since she's moving back to San Francisco in mid-May, Jamie came to visit us and Mom and Dad this past week. She stayed with us at the end of the week, and we had a blast! We went to a Texas Ranger's game on Monday night, met up for a bit on Wednesday, had dinner on Thursday night, cooked yummy delicious food and drank wine on Friday night, and went to the family reunion all day Saturday. And throw in shopping here and there. It was so much fun! I am sad she's moving back, but maybe now we can visit more often.

Family Reunion: All day this past Saturday we had the Grandma Brown family reunion at the Colin County Adventure Camp. It was great to see all of the family again. We had about 50 people attend, and ate some delicious food. The winners of the appetizer and dessert contest were Jamie with her Chicken Poppers (actually a renamed Pakistani dish) and Sherrie's Lemon Cake. I think food contests are the way to go for event participation.

Job: The job front for both Michael and I has or will be changing soon. Michael just accepted a position and started working for a new company in their HR department. He is now an HR Generalist at TGGT Holdings, LLC. He's really enjoying it so far, and is excited for the career advancement. My internship with D Magazine will be ending on the 28th of May, so I'll be free as a bird! I'm still working for HPB, too, so we shall see where I go from there. It's an exciting time!

I think that's everything! So much has been going on, and I'm excited for the month of May. I'll keep you updated.
