Tomorrow

Tomorrow my blog will be 3 years old. Happy birthday, Blog!

A Dash of Spectacular is the name I gave my blog three years ago, and it is still it's name today. I blog about the wonderful, awful, lovely and spectacular things that happen in my life, because those are the moments I want to remember and keep.

Not everything is spectacular in a way that's positive or good, but I still write about a little of everything that happens.

Still Recovering

I'm still recovering from a fabulous dinner at Fogo de Chao for Father's Day. It was amazing.

An overdose of picana. Such a good meal. At the end when we were paying our check, they handed my dad a Fogo de Chao grilling apron. Very nice! After a little adjusting (one size fits all?), it was the perfect apron. It also came with a coupon for a free dinner meal. Thanks, Fogo!

Now I'm off for errands day. Walking is much needed!

Camera Search

Also, I'm beginning to look for a camera. We desperately need one, and I would like to get one before we take our trip to Fredericksburg in August.

I've already asked on Facebook, but which camera do you think I should get?

Specifications:
Decent Megapixels
Cannon or Nikon
$150-350
Between fancy/zooty and point-and-shoot

Food Filled

I've got a lot going on in the next few days.

First, a little recap. Michael and I went to Cretia's last night for dinner, and I have to say, I was a little underwhelmed. (http://www.cretias.com/mckinney/index.html) I had heard nothing but yummy things from my friends about their cupcakes and other menu items. Michael got the West Texas Wedge salad with candied walnuts and bleu cheese dressing. The walnuts were the only memorable part. I got the house salad, which came with field greens, roasted beets, grapefruit slices and feta cheese. Sounds like a winnning combination, right? It turned out to be just "blah." Later, we split their burger, which was cooked to our liking, and had delicious grilled onions on top. For dessert, we had their cupcake and champagne choice. It was the one thing I wanted to try before I made my final decision on Cretia's. Nail in the coffin. The cupcake was just a plain, four-inch, buttery cupcake with almond-extract in the vanilla icing. Lame. The Champagne was decent, but I just couldn't get over the cupcake let-down. Sprinkles still takes the cupcake.

After work today I decided to have some "me" time, and sit by the pool while reading. It was a nice treat.

Tomorrow, I am meeting Sarah for a pedicure and a chat. It will be nice to catch up! Then we're going to get our free lunches from work, and take them to have a coffee at Pearl Cup. We're doing it up!

Then I need to stop by Whole Foods to pick up items for that night's dinner. We're having Michael's parents, sister and cousin over. I'm making that Chicken Delmonico, since it went over so well last time, and garlic mashed potatoes, roasted asparagus, and wheat rolls. I'm going to stop by Nothing Bundt Cakes to get a couple little bundts for dessert. It will be a perfect meal.

Sunday evening, Michael and I are taking my dad to Fogo de Chao for a combination gift. Last year, we were going to go to Fogo de Chao, but our trip to Las Vegas got in the way. So, we're rescheduling for this year, and giving him a Home Depot gift card. WHAT he will do with that is anyone's guess, but I know he'll be thrilled to have it! Also, endless MEAT! :)

Have a good Father's Day weekend, all!

Business and Pleasure

Happy Monday!

I hope everyone had a good weekend - I did! Michael was gone on a business trip on Thursday and Friday, so when he got home on Friday night, I was ready to see him! I made him a fabulous dinner of Chicken Delmonico (panko-breaded chicken with a mushroom-cream sauce) over garlic mashed potatoes. A friend of mine mentioned making this dish as a 'welcome home' for Michael, so I took the idea and ran with it. I didn't have a recipe, but I'd say it turned out just fine.

That night Michael mentioned seeing regular and river boat casinos while in the Shreveport area, and we decided to take a trip to the WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma. (http://www.winstarworldcasino.com/) It was a blast! Once we got inside the casino, I almost forgot where we were! Recently, WinStar remodeled the inside and outside of their casino to include sections modeled after the cities of New York, Vienna, Cairo, Paris, Beijing, Rome, Madrid and London. We played video poker and animated games while having drinks and talking about past trips to Las Vegas. It almost makes me want to cancel our travel plans this year for a trip out to Nevada.

On that note, I meant to write about our choices for travel this year. (Since it's half over!) We're planning on going to Fredericksburg and Enchanted Rock State Park in early August. No, we won't be camping (how hot!), but we'll be staying in a bed and breakfast, hiking, and strolling about the town.

Later, in October, we will be going to San Francisco. Michael has been wanting to go to SF for years now, and we're finally doing it. Suggestions are welcome, but we'll of course be going to the touristy things for Michael to check out. Also, we'll get to see Jamie while we're there!

Then in January, we'll be going to Boston for my birthday. I am SO excited! I love that city, and I can't wait to get back. Especially during a season we haven't be able to experience. I'm hoping to break in some snow boots, try to ski/snow board, and eat delicious warm foods. What a birthday present, eh?

Anyway, I need to quit typing away and get to the rest of my errands before Michael gets home.

Tre Amici Closed

Nancy Nichols over at D announced that Tre Amici closed yesterday.

This is interesting to me because it was just last night that I was talking to Michelle about how I haven't heard anything good about this place. It just came as a super timely announcement, in my book.
